Real Salt Lake have announced the signing of Justen Glad as a Home Grown player today. The 17 year old defender has been a large part of the RSL AZ academy since joining the club in 2012, including beating Solar Chelsea SC in the USSDA U16 final last year.
Glad is a defender that can play anywhere along the back line and has seen time at each spot. Garth has mentioned in previous discussions about Glad that he sees him as a future center back for RSL based on his skill set. Glad has also spent time in the USYNT ranks, most recently being called up for the U18 camp in Carson California later this month.
I’m really looking forward to being able to join the RSL first-team,” Glad said. “Ever since I can remember I’ve dreamed of being a professional, and RSL and the RSL-Arizona Academy have made that possible. It’s going to be an amazing experience learning from a great coaching staff and an experienced group of players, and I’m incredibly thankful for everyone that helped make this dream a reality.
This is yet another huge home grown signing for RSL. Glad is currently ranked by Top Drawer Soccer as the 10th best player in his year in the country. His defensive skills are well known and as a depth/project player he will be an asset for RSL for years to come. Getting a player of his quality to forego college and elect to sign his first professional contract with RSL is a huge indicator of where we are at as a club. This will be the 7th home grown signing and each one has been “The best HG we’ve ever signed”. This will continue as the academy gets better and draws more attention. It’s been mentioned several times that the way that we stay competitive is through training and signing talent like Jordan Allen, Justen Glad, and those like them. Nabbing this signing means we’re on the right path.
Interestingly enough Sebastian Saucedo is also on the TDS list of players and is ranked 5th for the same year. He’s a forward that, if signed (when), will be the best HG signing we’ve ever made.
