Real Salt Lake are off to a great start to the 2014 season. Undefeated through March (and now into the first week of April) while fighting through injuries and international call ups. Yet again RSL have been forced to call upon almost the full squad to step up and make a difference. Through the first 4 games there were a lot of stand out performances and we’d like to take a second to recognize those players that are giving their all for the crown.
We’ll do this each month, and the winner of the poll will get a tshirt. THAT’S RIGHT! A fantastic tshirt! (insert applause here).
Here are your nominees:
Yes, Joao picked up an injury and has missed a couple of games, but through the first 2.5 matches he played in he was fantastic. There’s a noticeable difference in the squad without Joao on the field.
Scoring two goals and adding two assists while wreaking havoc on opposing defenses, Joao has really stepped up this year. Honestly, we cannot wait to have him back.
Captain Kyle. He’s been dominant thus far this season all while playing more minutes than most (including the USMNT performance). The thing that really gets him on this list was his play against USMNT team mate Michael Bradley. There was nothing Bradley could do in that match that wasn’t overshadowed by what Kyle was doing. Better possession, better defense, better distribution. All the talk leading up to that about who was the better player was silenced on that field.
Some may call this a no brainer, as Nick is the best keeper in the world! Okay, I’ll calm down. But really, 19 saves while only giving up 4 goals thus far this season. He’s saving 83% of the shots against him. Just remarkable.
So now it falls to you. Cast your vote, tell your friends, help us give a player an article of clothing!
